HBCA Beach Opening – Memorial Day Weekend
We are pleased to announce that HBCA will be opening on schedule this coming Memorial Day weekend. With our lifeguards and gate guards back on duty, the beach gate will be open again. As you know, the main gate has remained closed since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak. We thank you for your patience during this time. The decision to keep the gate closed was in an effort to keep our community safe by reducing the gathering of large groups which an open gate typically invites. With adequate staff in place, we will be able to properly monitor and enforce safe practices. As we open for business in the current environment, a day at the beach will be a little different than your typical day at the beach. HBCA is operating in accordance with the guidance issued by the Office of the Suffolk County Executive on beach openings. This includes new capacity limitations, limitations on use of facilities, and additional staffing requirements, to name a few. Here is what you need to know:
Members only – In an effort to adhere to capacity limitations, beach access will be limited to members only.
Social distancing – Members not of the same household will be required to maintain a safe distance from each other (not less than 6 feet). This policy will be strictly monitored and enforced.
Playground and volleyball facilities will be closed.
The main gate will only be open during hours of operations (typically 10am – 6pm, tide dependent).
Please know that your HBCA Board of Directors and staff are working very hard to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment at the Beach. We are continuously monitoring the situation and meet frequently to discuss updates to policies and procedures as this fluid situation develops. In the meantime, we ask that our members stay safe and be respectful to each other and HBCA staff.
With an ideal mid-afternoon high-tide, we are looking forward to a great opening weekend and an enjoyable season ahead. Be well, Your HBCA Board of Directors
